About the newsroom

Local journalism,
in the public interest

Our story

Midlands Morning was started by a small group of reporters who grew up in the region and watched local newsrooms disappear one by one. We began with a simple idea: a free daily email, written for people who live here, by people who live here.

Midlands Morning is built around its readers. We follow the stories that shape daily life across the region — the high street changes, the transport updates, the community projects and the people behind them — and share them in plain English with your first coffee.

We also keep you in the loop on what's happening locally each day — markets, gigs, exhibitions, family events and community meet-ups — so you always know what's on in your area.

Made in the Midlands, for the Midlands. We're a small team that genuinely loves this place: honest stories, local voices and a fresh brew of news delivered straight to your inbox every morning.

Made here.
Independent. Local. For the Midlands.
What we stand for

Six principles, no exceptions

Local first

If it doesn't affect someone in the Midlands, it doesn't go in the briefing.

Transparent

We publish our sources, corrections and funding in full, every quarter.

Independent

No proprietor, no political affiliation, no advertiser influence over editorial.

Reader-funded

Voluntary contributions from readers keep the briefing free for everyone.

Original reporting

We don't aggregate press releases. We attend, ask, verify, then publish.

From the region

Every reporter on the team lives and works in the area they cover.

Free, every weekday morning.
